I was doing research for a dating service branding project, but I took away two things I didn’t expect: first, that online dating sites (depending on which ones you join) are actual full of great people who are looking for an alternative to clubs and bars for meeting new people, and second that there are some oft-overlooked tricks to online dating that, according to many of the conversations I had, most people are not using. Make use of them, and you (and your date) should have a much more pleasant experience (and maybe you’ll find the girl or guy or transgendered person you’ve been looking for)! Do not, I repeat, DO NOT pretend to be something you are not while online dating.
That’s the beauty of a network that knows no boundaries…unlimited options for everyone.
And if you find that the people YOU like are out of your league, well then start running laps and learning a new language, because online dating with not help you fake out someone for long, buddy.
Attractive girls in big cities usually have so many matches that they rarely view second pics if they don’t like the first one. It should show your face, without sunglasses, with a friendly smile. If you do use one, make sure it doesn’t look like one.
It’s important to include a picture that displays your stature.

There are a few other sites you might have decent success on (i.e.: Zoosk, etc.), but you’ll be fighting an uphill battle.
We found that women on the other sites were often inactive (created a profile, never logged back in) or fake.
Jim Talbott, director of consumer insights at Match.com, also suggests: “Keep your photos fresh, and swap out your primary photo frequently.
You look like a new user and people who might have missed you before are more likely to give you a second look.” A final thought from Honey: “Don't be tempted to airbrush your picture or present yourself looking too much better than you do in real life, and give group photos a miss to avoid confusion.” It might feel a little awkward, but dating expert Peter Spalton says it’s a great idea to ask a friend to cast a fresh eye over what you’ve written – and not just to check your spelling.
In our vast experience, most online dating sites are not worth paying for.
